The Road Before Me
I was standing in the middle of the road to take this picture–I took a few actually and it was ten minutes or more before another vehicle came along. I thought of this last night–
To take this picture I had my back to a sharp curve that was veiled by marsh grass. I’m usually very skittish about standing in the road (not to get run over by a car of course) and for a long time I just stood there on the painted yellow line with my back to the road’s bend. For a unbroken spell, I was unafraid and trusting. Then I sensed a sound or a change of wind and crossed the road to join my husband and daughter, who were watching a baby snapping turtle near the marsh edge, and at just that time a big truck towing a boat whooshed by.
